She's Finally Here!

Hello and welcome Gillian Paige Lockhart! We are so excited she's finally here after a bit of drama but she's doing just fine as am I and Scott is doing an awesome job as a first time dad. I started to have contractions on Thursday the 15th but they went away and then on Friday we went to the hospital because I thought my water had possibly broken. They did a swab test but after laying down for three hours waiting on the on-call doctor the test came back negative. By the time we got home I was drenched but the hospital told us it's nothing to worry about. Not being convinced I did go ahead and stay home and sleep that night and called back on Saturday afternoon and sure enough my water had broken. We were admitted right away and were told be prepared for a long night because I was only 2 cm dilated and the potosin needs to do it's magic to get me started. After 6 hours of being on potosin I had gone up only 1 cm so it seemed to be taking quite some time. Three hours later I told the nurse that I was feeling some pressure so after a quick check I was ready to go and her head was right there! Thirty minutes later at 11:10 PM on Saturday, January 17th we welcomed Gillian into the world.

The first two nights at the hospital she was a total angel, slept like a champ, after a feeding she went right back to sleep just a super easy baby. Then we came to last night and right as Scott and I turn off the TV it began. The screaming followed by more screaming and more screaming! We went through the list, changed diaper, made sure she was warm, cuddled with her, let her suck our fingers. Nothing worked! We called to the nursery to ask for help and she got a warm blanket and pacifier and boom - she's fine. We decided that we needed to send her to the nursery to sleep because I was about to burst into tears and I think Scott was so frustrated he couldn't see straight. After a small breakdown for me, we recovered and she settled down as well and have been doing great ever since.

We are now home and trying to get the dogs used to the new addition and that has proved to be a bit more of a challenge than we expected. Stella could care less she just barks when Gillian cries. Otis on the other hand is a wreck about it all. He's constantly whining, can't settle down and wants to constantly sniff and lick her. Why is it the 110 lb dog is having issues and why couldn't it have been the 17 lb dog? I guess that's just the way it works.

Tomorrow we a doctor appointment for Gillian, she's loosing a bit of weight - that's to be expected but I'm having some troubles with feeding so we want to make sure that's taken care of and she has the slightest touch of jaundice so I'll have an update tomorrow! Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers from everyone they truly worked for us and we are so blessed to have each of you thinking of us.
